Predator : Coyote
Handmade paper, gelatin, scrap coyote pelt, carved wooden hanger
5 X 8 X 3 feet
2015-2016
This five foot square sheet of paper is the width of my reach and the height of my body. It is coated in gelatin made from animal hoofs and bones. When dry, the surface is polished, which makes the paper strong — similar to parchment. Plant root systems are projected and then traced onto the surface, and then painted in gold auto body paint. The drawing is then cast over my shoulders to fit my body and cut into a fragile network. The scruff of the piece is then covered with scraps of coyote pelt from the garment industry.
The coyote is one of the last natural scavenger predators that exist for deer.
