Predator : Wolf
Handmade paper, gelatin, wolf fur, carved wooden hanger
5 X 8 X 3 feet
2015-2016
This five foot square sheet of paper is the width of my reach and the height of my body. It is coated in gelatin made from animal hoofs and bones. When dry, the surface is polished, making the paper strong — similar to parchment. Plant root systems are projected and then traced onto the surface, and then gilded in 24 karat gold. The drawing is then cast over my shoulders to fit my body.
The scruff of the piece is then covered with the groomed hair of rescued wolves. The endangered gray wolf is one of the last natural predators that exist for deer.
