Five Miles From Fayette

Permanent Site-Specific Installation:
Edgar Fine Arts Center, Upper Iowa University, Fayette, IA

Transparent Adhesive Vinyl
890 square feet of glass

2018

The botanical images that are the source of this project are projections from pressed flower herbarium samples collected in the late 1800’s by C. C. Parker. Parker was the first professor of natural sciences at Upper Iowa University when its doors opened in 1857 and collected these specimens while walking in the prairie woodlands within a five-mile radius of the town of Fayette.

These 120 year-old samples retained color, intricacy and incredible detail. Each sample was projected, traced, and color separated by hand to create the multi-layered installation.
